Salary Report
As of the third quarter 2009, multinational companies in Thailand were typically paying salaries in the ranges shown in the table on the following page.
The job categories in the table are arranged by skill and level of experience. Please note that the data in the column headed “Years of IT Work Experience” refers to total years of IT work experience, not necessarily just to the experience with that specific skill.
The amounts given are basic monthly salary only. Most companies also pay an annual bonus, generally equal to at least one month’s salary, and often more for good performance. Many larger companies also offer a health insurance plan, and some also contribute to a provident fund on the employee’s behalf. Senior management positions often include other benefits such as a car (or a transportation allowance), laptop, and mobile phone. Companies which are located in the provinces will sometimes offer an additional “upcountry allowance” (typically in the range of 15% of the monthly base salary) as an added incentive for skilled staff to relocate to jobs outside Bangkok.
The salaries assume staff who are Thai nationals, with at least a reasonable command of English (or better, for the more senior jobs). If the English proficiency is not strong, salaries may be slightly lower. Similarly, for those positions where certifications are indicated in the job description, candidates without certification can generally be hired at somewhat lower salaries.
Contractors are also often available on a fixed-term basis for many of these job functions. Contract rates are usually 25% - 30% higher than the applicable salary range for permanent staff in the same position. Rates are also significantly affected by variables such as the length of the contract.
